Pantone, the company behind the world-renowned Pantone Matching System used in coloured paint and fabrics, has unveiled Rose Quartz and Serenity as the colour of 2016. 

Since its launch in January, Rose Quartz and Serenity have started influencing interior design in a number of areas. As the calming colour blend can be used in home accessories, furnishings and in wall paint, we take a look at how you can incorporate it into your living space.  

Why Rose Quartz And Serenity Is The Colour Of 2016

It’s the first time Pantone has used the idea of blending two shades. Rose Quartz and Serenity have been chosen as consumers continue to seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to the stresses of modern-day life. Colours like these are believed to psychologically fulfil our yearning for reassurance and security, and are becoming more prominent in design. 

Pantone’s Colour of the Year is the company’s ‘colour snapshot’ of what they see taking place in culture and society in the next 12 months as an expression of a particular mood or attitude. In previous years, Pantone has recognised vibrant colours such as Radiant Orchid, Emerald and Tangerine Tango, which conveyed life, energy and sophistication. 

Pantone says that “Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure.

“Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.” 

Incorporating Rose Quartz And Serenity In Your Home

Rose Quartz and Serenity is a beautiful combination that conjures an inviting, calming and welcoming atmosphere, so they are well suited to areas for relaxation, such as living rooms and bedrooms. The colours are stunning in matte, metallic and glossy finishes, so work equally well as background wall colours, in furnishings, or in feature home accessories.

Adding vintage pendant lighting in soft colours complements the calming aspect of Rose Quartz and Serenity, for instance this Battersea light in clay works well.
